It seems that the main concern about reddit to most parents is the fact that their kids could be looking at NSFW content. But for younger kids, even younger teens, it's a big no-no.
I don't regret learning this, and I think teaching older kids about this stuff is healthy. I've learned about other cultures, laughed at many a funny meme, seen some excellent jokes and fanart, I also now know what certain inappropriate jokes mean, and a lot more about sex than any other place ever taught me. My experience on Reddit has been filled with a lot of good stuff. Reddit is a more free range branch of the internet, and you have to have a kid who can deal with that okay. If your kid can't handle that yet, don't set them free on Reddit, start them out on a smaller and more censored site to learn these skills. Reddit will give you so many answers and knowledge and opinions, but you have to be able to discern what is healthy to look at, and what is not.
I've also learned about drugs, NSFW content, and just really adult topics. During my time on Reddit, I've learned about college admissions, good books to read, and advances in science. Reddit is a site where you will learn a lot, no matter where you go.
